About RuTAG Technology Commercialization Programme
The RuTAG Technology Commercialization Programme is a joint initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). The programme aims to provide the necessary support for commercialization of shortlisted validated technologies developed at the RuTAG centers across seven Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) catering to the rural market in India as well as BIMSTEC and African countries.
With India playing a leading role in south-south cooperation on socio-economic developed of other developing nations, the African and BIMSTEC regions would provide an additional market opportunity for scaling and replicating Indian innovations. These technologies, developed and upgraded at the RuTAG centers across India, can be customized to the needs of the rural communities in these countries and thereby create sustainable socio-economic impact till the last mile.
Over the course of each cycle, the programme aims to commercialize 10 technologies from the RuTAG centers – 6 in the Indian market and 4 in BIMSTEC and African countries. The programme will be implemented by FICCI, in close coordination with the seven RuTAG centers and the industry.
The Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) has been conceived as a demand-driven catalyzing mechanism to address the needs of the Indian rural economy through targeted technology intervention and support. The needs are identified by S&T Institutions, NGOs, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and, State & Central Government organizations. The interventions can range from technology upgradation to delivery, training and demonstrations etc. The technologies are developed at various RuTAG centers at IITs across the country and disseminated to rural areas through a network of NGOs.
Programme Objective:
To address the needs of the rural markets in India as well as African and BIMSTEC nations by identifying, shortlisting and providing commercialization support to validated RuTAG technologies, with the aim to create positive socio-economic impact till the last mile.
